Introduction

The Chicken Run Desktop Theme v1.0 is a Desktop Theme by beebfun designed for Microsoft Plus! (or shareware equivalent). This theme includes special start-up and shutdown screens, animated cursors, themed wallpapers and desktop colour scheme, quality system sounds, new desktop icons and a themed screensaver. The first Chicken Run Desktop Theme just days after its UK relase on 30th June 2000.

Requirements

The CR.ZIP file contains all that you will need (except Microsoft Plus!) to run this under Windows 95/98/NT. A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels or higher with hi-colour (16/24/32 bit colour) resolution is recommended to get the best quality. The desktop wallpaper included in this theme pack is 1024x768 but will shrink/stretch automatically to your selected screen size. To use this beebfun desktop theme you will also need the Microsoft Plus! add-on for Windows 95. Windows 98 includes this software. If you are using Windows 95 and don't have the Plus! Pack there is a shareware application available that you can download over the net that does the same thing as the desktop theme utiliity in Plus!. If you like it please register it, it only costs about $30 and when registered it will help you edit or evan create your own themes as well.

Automatic Installation Of Theme Files

The CR.ZIP file has been saved with all required file locations - to install this theme just do the following:-

All the files will be extracted and saved in the correct folders and locations. If you use Desktop Themes by Jonathon Potter, by selecting either Chicken Run 1 or Chicken Run 2 themes all files (startup/shutdown/screensaver/wallaper/sounds/icons) will be automatically installed but do read the following detailed installation instructions if you wish to preseve your current startup and shutdown files which will be automatically over-written if you use this approach.

If your themes directory isn't at the default setting of "C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes" then you will need to create a sub-directory called Chicken Run within your themes directory and extract the files to that directory. The *.theme files should be placed in the themes directory.

Manual Installation theme files

The following instructions describe how to manually install the zip file contents so that you can manually remove these at some later date at your option.

  1. Unzip the archive to a temporary location (e.g C:\TEMP) with an unzip program that supports long filenames like Winzip. You should now have one folder containing the files in the zip file.
  2. Go to the root folder of your boot drive (usually c:\) and rename the file logo.sys (if one exists) to logo.w95. Next, move the file logo.sys from the temporary location to this folder.
  3. Go to your Windows folder (usually c:\windows) and rename the files logoW.sys and logoS.sys to logoW.w95 and logoS.w95 if these exist. Next, move the files: logoW.sys and logoS.sys from the temporary location to this folder.
  4. Go to your Systems folder (usually c:\windows\system) move the files: Chicken Run.Dat and Chicken Run.Scr from the temporary location to this folder.
  5. Go to your Themes folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes) and create a folder called Chicken Run (Note: spelling is important)
  6. Move the others files from your temporary folder to your Chicken Run folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes\Chicken Run)
  7. Go to your Chicken Run folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes\Chicken Run) and move the files Chicken Run1.Theme and Chicken Run2.Theme back up to the Themes folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes)
  8. Start up Microsoft !Plus and select the Likely Lads theme options click on "OK".
  9. If using Desktop Themes (a shareware equivalent of Microsoft Plus!) double click on Desktop Themes and select Chicken Run 1 or Chicken Run 2 from the current settings drop down list. Click on apply.

Manual Installation Of Startup / Shutdown Screens

This theme also includes original start-up/shutdown screens. If you use Desktop Themes these will be installed automatically, your previous start-up/shutdown screens wil be backed up in a directory called DTLSS_PVT in your Themes directory (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes\). If you use Plus! you will have to install these screens manually. You may want to back-up your original start-up/shutdown screens first, see instructions above. To remove them at any time just delete the file(s).

Distribution

This theme may be distributed freely so long as all files are kept together, no modifications are made and no money is ever charged for the theme in any form.
